Job description

Location: India

Every year, we help hundreds of thousands of people find rewarding jobs in the ever-changing world of work.

We understand the importance of a job in peoples lifes and we want to help them find work that feels good. And we’ll help them continue to grow as their needs and ambitions change.

At Randstad, our value comes from our people and that is why we put them first. We are proud of our learning culture and career architecture framework that encourages ours team to develop both personally and professionally.

We believe that talent grows when presented with opportunity and this is why we encourage our people to think beyond their role. We have created a culture that enables talent to flourish, encouraging entrepreneurship, fostering team spirit, and continually building mutual trust.

key responsibilities and scope

  • Technical ownership: accountable for the end-to-end technical design, build quality and operational health of all integration services delivered by the squad; the final technical decision-maker within the squad, working inside the architecture standards set for the platform.
  • People leadership: direct line management of 3–5 Java engineers — hiring input, onboarding, objectives, performance reviews, development plans, and day-to-day coaching and task allocation.
  • Delivery leadership: accountable for the squad meeting agreed scope, quality and timelines across concurrent client, vendor and product integration workstreams; escalates risk early and with options.
  • Engineering standards: defines and enforces the squad’s standards for design documentation, coding, branching, testing, code review, security and release; is the gatekeeper on what is allowed to ship.
  • Stakeholder influence: influences product owners, architects, client IT contacts and vendor technical teams on feasibility, sequencing, interface design and technical trade-offs; has no direct authority over these groups but is expected to be persuasive and evidence-led with them.
  • Platform contribution: contributes to platform-wide architecture, reusable components, shared tooling and engineering practice beyond the boundary of their own squad.
  • Risk, security and compliance: responsible for ensuring the squad’s services handle personal and client data in line with Randstad security, privacy and data protection requirements.

job tasks

  • Produce and review technical designs, interface specifications and integration patterns for new and changing integrations, and see them through architecture and security review.
  • Design, write and review production Java code — services, APIs, event consumers, transformations, error handling and retry logic — to the standard expected of the most senior engineer in the squad.
  • Run code review as a routine discipline, giving specific, teachable feedback and holding a consistent quality bar across the team.
  • Break down requirements with the product owner into estimable, sequenced work; challenge scope and assumptions where the technical cost is disproportionate to the value.
  • Line manage the squad: one-to-ones, objective setting, performance reviews, development planning, onboarding of new joiners, and handling of day-to-day people matters with HR and the reporting manager.
  • Plan and oversee the squad’s sprint or iteration work, unblock engineers, rebalance workload and keep delivery status visible and honest.
  • Own the squad’s production services: monitoring, alerting, on-call or escalation participation, incident triage, root cause analysis and follow-up remediation.
  • Drive automated testing and CI/CD practice for the squad — unit, integration and contract tests, pipeline quality gates, and repeatable, low-drama releases.
  • Work directly with client IT teams and vendor technical contacts on interface design, credentials and connectivity, data mapping, test cycles and go-live cutover.
  • Identify, document and reduce technical debt; propose and sequence refactoring and platform improvement work alongside feature delivery.
  • Maintain technical documentation, runbooks and support knowledge so that services can be operated and extended by people other than their authors.
  • Support hiring and capability building — interviewing, technical assessment, knowledge sharing sessions and mentoring of junior engineers.
