What you get

Resume formats for freshers and experienced professionals

Resume format for freshers

One page. Start with your name and contact details and a two-line career objective, then Education (degree, college, year, CGPA or percentage), Projects and Internships, then skills, certifications and achievements. Classic and Timeline suit freshers best.

Resume format for experienced professionals

One to two pages in reverse-chronological order: a short professional summary, Work Experience with 3 to 5 results-focused points per job, then key skills, education and certifications. Senior roles can add a project annexure on its own page.

Resume, CV or biodata?

A resume is a 1 to 2 page summary for a job application, which is what most companies in India ask for. A CV (curriculum vitae) is longer and more detailed, common for academic, research and international jobs. A biodata focuses on personal details such as date of birth and family, and is rarely used for private-sector jobs today.

ATS-friendly resume

Many employers screen resumes with an applicant tracking system (ATS) before a person reads them. Use standard headings, the job's own keywords for the skills you have, and a PDF with real text, which every template here produces.

How to write a resume that gets shortlisted

1. Pick the right format

Most recruiters in India expect a reverse-chronological resume: your latest job first, then the one before. Freshers can put Education and Projects first, because that is where their strongest material is.

2. Start with clear contact details

Give your full name, mobile number, a professional email address, your city and a LinkedIn or portfolio link. You do not need your full address, date of birth, marital status or religion; they take space and say nothing about your work.

3. Write a short professional summary

Two or three lines: who you are, your years of experience, your main skills and what you are looking for. For example: "Sales executive with 4 years in FMCG distribution across Pune, grew territory revenue 32% in 2025, looking for an area sales manager role."

4. Show results, not only duties

Under each job, write 3 to 5 points that start with an action word and include a number where you can: "Reduced month-end closing from 6 days to 3" says more than "Responsible for accounts."

5. Match your skills to the job

Read the job description and use the same words for the skills you really have, such as Tally, Excel, Python or Customer Service. Applicant tracking systems look for these words before a person reads your resume.

6. Keep education short and exact

Degree, college, years and your CGPA or percentage. After a few years of experience, your class 10 and 12 marks can go.

7. Keep the length right

One page for freshers and early careers, two pages for most experienced professionals. Longer resumes are fine for senior roles, academic CVs or a project annexure.

8. Check before you send

Proofread for spelling, keep dates consistent, save as PDF and name the file clearly, for example Priya-Sharma-Resume.pdf. A photo is optional: common in India, usually left out for jobs abroad.

Frequently asked questions

Is the CoreHRx resume builder free?

Yes. Creating, editing and downloading your resume as a PDF is free. You only need a free CoreHRx Jobs account, which you create with your mobile number.

Will my resume pass applicant tracking systems (ATS)?

Every PDF has real, selectable text in reading order and standard section headings, which is what applicant tracking systems read. For the strictest systems, pick the Classic template: it is a single column with no graphics.

Can I add a photo to my resume?

Yes, a photo is optional. Upload one or reuse your CoreHRx profile photo, and remove it at any time. Many employers in India like a photo; for jobs abroad, a resume without a photo is usually better.

How long can my resume be?

Up to 10 pages. Pages are added automatically as you write, and you can make any section start on a new page, for example a project annexure. For most people one page (freshers) or two pages (experienced) works best.

Does my resume update my CoreHRx profile?

Only a resume with the same mobile number as your account. If your CoreHRx profile is still empty, your first PDF download fills it from the resume and sets the PDF as the resume employers see. After that, use "Update my CoreHRx profile" in the editor: you see every change first, and nothing on your profile is deleted.

Can I make a resume for someone else?

Yes. A resume with a different mobile number is kept in your resume builder only. It is never linked to your profile, and no account is created for the other person.

Which template should a fresher choose?

Classic or Timeline. Put Education and Projects near the top, add internships under Work Experience, and keep it to one page.

What is the best resume format for freshers in India?

A one-page resume with your contact details, a two-line career objective, education (degree, college, year, CGPA or percentage), projects, internships, skills and certifications. Put education and projects first, because that is your strongest material.

What is the difference between a resume, a CV and a biodata?

In India a resume is a 1 to 2 page summary for a job application, a CV is a longer and more detailed record often used for academic or international roles, and a biodata lists personal details such as date of birth and family. For most private-sector jobs, send a resume.

Can I make my resume on my phone?

Yes. The resume builder works in your phone browser: fill in the form, switch to the preview with one tap and download the PDF.
