Job description

Location: India

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a UK Accountant based in India.

We are seeking an experienced UK Accountant to manage bookkeeping and accounting activities for a portfolio of UK-based clients. In this remote, part-time opportunity, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with established UK accounting practices. You will handle daily bookkeeping, bank and ledger reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and year-end accounts preparation. Using Xero as your primary accounting platform, you will independently manage client accounts while maintaining high standards of accuracy and organization. You will also communicate with clients and internal stakeholders in English to resolve discrepancies, provide updates, and ensure timely financial reporting. This opportunity is ideal for an accounting professional with practical UK accounting experience who can work independently and deliver reliable results with minimal supervision.

Accountabilities:

  • Bookkeeping and Financial Record Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date bookkeeping records for UK-based clients using Xero. Record, classify, and reconcile financial transactions while ensuring client ledgers remain complete and properly organized.
  • Bank and Ledger Reconciliations: Perform regular bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations. Investigate discrepancies, identify inconsistencies, and implement appropriate corrections to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Accounts Payable Management: Handle supplier-related accounting activities, including processing purchase invoices, reconciling supplier accounts, maintaining payment records, and preparing payment runs.
  • Accounts Receivable Management: Manage customer invoicing and incoming payments by raising sales invoices, recording receipts, monitoring outstanding balances, and following up on overdue payments.
  • Year-End Accounts Preparation: Prepare and maintain financial records, supporting schedules, and relevant documentation required for year-end accounts preparation.
  • UK Accounting Compliance: Ensure bookkeeping and accounting records are accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with applicable UK accounting practices and financial record-keeping standards.
  • Client Communication and Coordination: Communicate professionally in written and spoken English with clients and internal stakeholders to address accounting queries, provide progress updates, and follow up on outstanding information.
  • Independent Client Account Management: Take ownership of assigned client files, organize daily accounting activities, prioritize workloads, and consistently meet agreed deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Issue Resolution and Quality Control: Identify and resolve routine accounting discrepancies, maintain strong quality standards, and escalate complex accounting matters when necessary.
  • Requirements:

  • 3–5 years of hands-on professional experience in UK accounting, preferably within an accounting firm or an environment supporting UK-based clients.
  • Strong practical knowledge of UK accounting processes, bookkeeping principles, and financial record-keeping requirements.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Xero, including daily use in a professional accounting environment.
  • Proven experience managing bookkeeping activities, including transaction recording, classification, and reconciliations.
  • Practical experience performing bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Good understanding of accounts payable processes, including invoice processing, supplier account reconciliation, and payment preparation.
  • Experience managing accounts receivable activities, including sales invoicing, payment recording, and outstanding payment follow-ups.
  • Familiarity with year-end accounts preparation and the organization of supporting financial documentation.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with UK-based clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple client accounts with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling financial information and accounting records.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks while consistently meeting deadlines.
  • Availability to work Monday to Friday, from 6:30 PM to 11:30 PM India Standard Time, corresponding to UK business hours.
  • A self-motivated and dependable working style, with the ability to deliver consistent results in a fully remote environment.
  • Please note: This is an experienced professional opportunity, not a training position. Candidates should already have practical knowledge of UK accounting and be comfortable managing client files independently.

    Benefits:

  • Annual compensation: INR 4,20,000–4,80,000 (INR 4.2–4.8 LPA).
  • Employment type: Contract / Freelance.
  • Work arrangement: Fully remote opportunity for candidates based in Surat, Gujarat, India.
  • Part-time schedule: Approximately 4–5 hours per day, Monday to Friday.
  • Evening working hours: 6:30 PM–11:30 PM IST, aligned with UK business hours.
  • Professional exposure: Opportunity to work directly with UK-based clients and gain experience across diverse accounting activities.
  • Technical expertise: Daily practical use of Xero and exposure to UK bookkeeping and accounting processes.
  • Independent ownership: Opportunity to manage assigned client portfolios and take responsibility for accounting deliverables.
  • International experience: Work within an India-based accounting team supporting UK accounting operations.
  • Flexible work arrangement: Remote working structure with a defined weekday evening schedule.
