Job Description
We are looking for an experienced IBM i System Administrator to join an offshore managed services team responsible for the day-to-day administration, monitoring, maintenance, security, performance, backup/recovery, and operational support of an enterprise IBM i environment.
This person will support the stability and availability of the IBM i platform, troubleshoot system issues, fulfill service requests, perform routine system changes, and coordinate with IBM and third-party vendors when necessary.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on AS400/iSeries/IBM i administrator who has experience supporting production environments and understands IBM i security, backups, system monitoring, PTFs, performance, and disaster recovery.
IBM i System Administration
Day-to-day administration of IBM i / AS400 / iSeries environments
Monitor system health, availability, CPU, memory, storage, jobs, and workloads
Perform system configuration and resource tuning
Troubleshoot IBM i system and application-related operational issues
Support environment refreshes, including QA/Test refreshes from approved production backups
Coordinate system changes through established change-management processes
Performance Monitoring & Tuning
Monitor system and job performance
Perform workload optimization and memory pool tuning
Manage job priorities and system resources
Configure and maintain monitoring and alerting
Identify utilization trends and potential capacity issues
Backup, Recovery & DR
Support and troubleshoot BRMS, VTL, and tape-based backups
Participate in disaster recovery testing and execution
Support HA/DR switch activities
Assist with data replication and recovery processes
Perform approved QA/Test environment refreshes
Security & Access
Manage IBM i user profiles, object authorities, IFS permissions, and file-level security
Support security patching and remediation
Perform IBM i OS/PTF management
Support firmware and HMC updates
Manage approved open-source packages within the IBM i environment
Assist with security assessments and remediation activities
Service Requests & Operational Support
Create application user profiles and manage approved authority requests
Support B2B file-transfer setup using established templates
Perform approved Db2 data fixes using predefined DML scripts
Configure application secrets
Support field-level encryption configuration
Provide operational support for users of applications running within the IBM i environment
Software & Vendor Support
Perform IBM i OS upgrades and maintenance
Install, configure, and maintain approved third-party applications
Coordinate with IBM and other vendors on incidents, defects, and support cases
Maintain system and change documentation
Skills and Requirements
3+ years of hands-on IBM i / AS400 / iSeries administration experience
Strong experience administering production IBM i environments
Experience with IBM i OS and PTF management
Experience with BRMS and backup/recovery
Experience with system security and authority management, including:
User profiles
Object-level authority
IFS permissions
File-level permissions
CL / CLLE programming
Python scripting
Ansible
Bash scripting
