Senior Engineer/Technical Lead - Hardware & PCB Design
Description
We are seeking a Senior Engineer/Technical Lead - Hardware & PCB Design whose primary responsibilities are PCB design and hardware design-library management for advanced embedded and power measurement products. The role includes creating and reviewing PCB layouts, maintaining accurate and controlled component libraries, and supporting component selection, manufacturability, compliance, and design release. Strong board-level hardware knowledge is required to effectively interpret schematics, make sound layout decisions, validate library content, and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Own PCB design activities from planning through release, including placement, routing, stack-up, grounding, power distribution, signal integrity, EMI/EMC, thermal performance, creepage, clearance, and manufacturability.
Create and review schematics, netlists, bills of materials, PCB layouts, design outputs, and release documentation using Altium and associated engineering tools.
Own and govern the hardware design library, including approved components, schematic symbols, PCB footprints, models, templates, manufacturer data, sourcing attributes, and lifecycle status.
Establish and enforce library standards for creation, validation, approval, naming, version control, release, reuse, audits, obsolescence, and alternate-part management.
Apply board-level hardware knowledge to component selection, schematic interpretation, interface implementation, design reviews, and resolution of PCB and library issues.
Perform prototype bring-up, board modification, debugging, validation, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action verification using appropriate laboratory equipment.
Coordinate with hardware, firmware, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, compliance, product, and project teams to meet technical, cost, quality, and schedule objectives.
Maintain complete and traceable engineering records, test results, library data, and product design files.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
Proven hands-on experience in PCB design from schematic interpretation and component placement through routing, design review, validation, design transfer, and release.
Experience creating, validating, and governing electronic component libraries, including schematic symbols, PCB footprints, pin and package verification, metadata, approval workflows, lifecycle status, and controlled release.
Strong knowledge of PCB design practices, including stack-up, controlled impedance, grounding, power integrity, signal integrity, thermal performance, EMI/EMC, creepage, clearance, manufacturability, testability, and reliability.
Sound board-level hardware knowledge covering analog and digital circuits, power supplies, signal conditioning, clocking, isolation, protection, and interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Ethernet, USB, and LVDS.
Demonstrated delivery of at least one major PCB project from concept through implementation, validation, design transfer, and release.
Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, logic analyzers, thermal measurement tools, and related laboratory equipment for board debugging and validation.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical decision-making, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to assess trade-offs, risks, dependencies, and mitigation plans.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced proficiency with Altium Designer and managed-content environments, including component templates, automated validation, revision control, and controlled library release.
Experience managing preferred-parts and approved-vendor data, component obsolescence, alternates, and manufacturer change notifications.
Exposure to complex mixed-signal, high-speed digital, power electronics, isolated-interface, or precision measurement PCB designs.
Familiarity with circuit simulation and analysis tools such as LTspice or TINA.
Knowledge of microcontroller, microprocessor, FPGA, or SoC-based platforms, with basic embedded C or C++ and hardware-software debugging experience.
Experience supporting PCB fabrication, assembly, compliance, design transfer, and product release, with familiarity using version control systems such as Git.
Soft Skills
Strong individual ownership, sound engineering judgment, and disciplined design practices.
Strong communication, coordination, technical documentation, and stakeholder-collaboration skills.
Ability to work effectively across cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, quality, and business teams.
High attention to detail with a proactive approach to risk identification, design verification, issue resolution, and continuous improvement.
