Job Description
We are seeking an experienced IBM i System Administrator supporting an enterprise IBM i environment. This role will be responsible for the ongoing administration, maintenance, monitoring, security, performance, backup/recovery, and availability of IBM i systems.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned IBM i administrator who can work independently, troubleshoot complex production issues, execute routine and advanced system administration activities, and ensure the overall stability and performance of the environment.
Key Responsibilities
Perform day-to-day administration of IBM i / AS400 / iSeries environments
Manage IBM i OS, PTFs, software installations, upgrades, and maintenance
Monitor system health, CPU, memory, storage, jobs, and overall system performance
Perform performance tuning, workload optimization, and memory pool tuning
Troubleshoot complex IBM i system and production issues
Administer BRMS, backup/recovery processes, VTL, and tape operations
Support and execute DR/HA switches and disaster recovery testing
Support PowerHA and data replication activities
Perform approved Production, QA, and Test environment refreshes
Manage system security and authority, including:
Object-level authority
IFS permissions
File-level security
User profiles
Support journaling and recovery processes
Configure and maintain IBM i system monitoring and alerting
Identify opportunities to automate repetitive administration and monitoring activities
Coordinate with IBM and other third-party vendors for troubleshooting and defect resolution
Maintain system documentation, change records, runbooks, and operational procedures
Skills and Requirements
8-15+ years of hands-on IBM i / AS400 / iSeries System Administration experience
IBM i OS administration and PTF management
Software installation, configuration, and maintenance
Strong BRMS backup and recovery experience
Advanced IBM i system security and authority management
Strong IBM i performance monitoring and tuning
Experience troubleshooting CPU, memory, storage, jobs, and workload issues
Experience with Security, authorities, IFS and journaling
Experience with BRMS / backups / recovery
CL / CLLE programming
Python scripting
Ansible
Bash scripting
